If you can't tell from the words beneath the statue, this is Brigham Young.  In the Capitol, each state is allowed to pick two people and have their statues in the Capitol.  Trivia time!!!  We have 2 statues.  One is Brigham Young, who is the other?

 We were in DC for the National Cherry Blossom festival, which is ironic because the Cherry Blossoms happened a couple of months ago.  DC was so  crowded!!!!

 Hey, after taking 3 tours and walking from the White House to past the Capitol can really take a toll on someone.  Especially in 90 degree weather, 50% humidity.

Did you know that they built a grave for Washington underneath the Capitol Building?  Washington didn't want to be buried there cause he didn't want to be deified.  Just another testimony to what a great man Washington was.

Trip part 1

                    The "necessary" at Mount Vernon.  My mom kept asking why Washington would make an outhouse so cute!!!  with all of the scroll work and the brick and everything, they are kinda cute.... :)

 Caleb and Melody and the side of Mount Vernon.  George Washington wanted to use stone to build his house, but it was too expensive so he had the construction people cut wood into blocks like stone, mix sand with the paint, and layer the sand/paint mixture thickly, creating the illusion of stone.  Genius, huh?

 I'm not sure what building this is.  As mom puts it, I was too "boring" to walk an extra 100 ft to see it up close.  I could already see it from where I was.  I think it is servants quarters, but don't quote me on that.  Then again,who would quote me?

 Washington's 16 sided barn.  It was a cool design for a threshing barn.  He would put wheat on the floor, send horses across the floor, the wheat kernels would fall into the basement, and his slaves would gather them up.  I am so glad that horse hooves haven't touched the wheat that I eat.  Instead, there are a whole bunch of chemicals.

 St. Louis Arch.  We got to see it as we were driving by.  It was so cool!!!  I have a funny story about this arch.  I will tell it to you in person if you want to hear it though, its kinda long.

 The Community of Christ's conference center.  As you can tell we are not big fans of its modern architecture.  ;)

 Liberty Jail was really neat and well worth the trip if you ever go out there.  You can see a replica of the jail and listen to some recordings of Joseph Smith quotes.  It is really a neat spiritual experience.

Hello everybody who still checks this blog. It has been a heck of a long time since I have posted, mainly due to the fact that I now have a facebook page, and I check that more often then I check our blog. Let's face it, I never check our blog. Anyway, just wanted to post our upcoming concert schedule!! Yay, all of you lucky ducks get to have yet another chance to see what we do!!! haha=D

So the Scottish Festival is June 10-11, I think that Hyrum's competition is on the 11th but I am not sure so ask my mom if you are thinking about coming to that. I would definitely recommend that you do come, it will be a lot of fun!!!
Drew and I have our Magic of Disney revue on May 10-11, Tuesday and Wednesday, and I don't expect you to come as tickets are $5, but it will be a lot of fun and you get to see Drew dancing, not something I would have ever thought that I would see. Ha ha. So Have a great Mother's Day everybody and I will see you soon!!!

Happy March everybody! I was going to do a St. Patty's day post, but seeing as I'm a little late, I'll forgo the HAPPY ST PATRICKS DAY! Scattish Festival 2010 (last year)

So, I am posting this on a Sunday morning, reveling in the fact that I am not at church. I am going to do sort of a mish-mash post. About the Scottish Festival from last year, of all things. Yeah, I'm really lazy. So the Scottish festival is actually really cool. You can walk around and just look through the vending booths, or they have a whole bunch of different-for lack of a better word-stages set up everywhere and you can watch different music and dance things. It's really cool. They have a lot of Irish step-dancing(what I used to do!!!), and a lot of Irish-Scottish music going on. They have a bagpiping competition, a step-dancing competition, etc. The thing is though, the festival is a couple of days, and not everything happens on the same day. I don't remember what day looked like the best to go on, of any of that, really, so I'd go on to Thanksgiving Point's website and check it out. It really is a lot of fun, even Melody enjoyed it. If you have a kilt you can wear it. In fact, if Hyrum does the competition, he'll have to wear a kilt, so you guys will have to come and tell him how COOL he looks. haha:)
